KILLEEN — Graveside services for George Whittle Brown, 85, of Killeen will be 10 a.m. Wednesday in Killeen at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery with the Rev. George Holston officiating.
Mr. Brown died Saturday, Nov. 14, at a local nursing home.
He was born June 30, 1924, to Sallie Lorick and the Rev. James Benjamin Brown in Cayce, S.C. He graduated from Allen University. He served as rector of Epiphany Episcopal Church in Spartanburg, S.C. He was drafted into the U.S. Army while in high school and reported for duty after graduation in 1942. He served in the European Theater during World War II, and later served in the Korean and Vietnam wars. He retired a sergeant major in 1973. He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 223, a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9191, Disabled American Veterans and Armed Forces E-9 Association.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Stone Brown of Killeen; a daughter, Valeri Brown Bogucki of Austin; a brother, Alfred Brown of Philadelphia, Pa.; a sister, Cornell Manyfield of Spartanburg, S.C.; and two grandchildren.
